2024 Mid Summer Update

Greetings!

Short Version:

Long Version:

April:

We got the water heater serviced and had a new porcelain toilet installed. We also purchased an expensive new exterior door that goes over the water heater. When we left Long Beach for Chehalis, the new door blew off somewhere down the road.  We discoverd it missing when we got to Chehalis. Thankfully Don kept the original door and put that back on. The screen is missing in the original door so that will have to be fixed.

I fell off my scooter while in Long Beach and injured my foot. Went to ER. Luckily it wasn't broken, although it sure felt like it. Here's my foot a few says later:

May:

Our hydraulic line for the leveling jacks failed. Wayne at Diamond M Mobile RV repair came out to fix it. He told us the exhaust pipe rusted off spewing hot exhaust all over the line and melted it. That, then, required a trip to MufflerMan in Centralia.   Wayne also serviced our generator that was, aparantly, missing the air filter. It was sitting on the side of the generator, WTF. He did an oil change, spark plugs and replaced the air filter.

Joyce's medical results (mammogram, colonoscopy, A1C) all turned out good except for needing additional calcium and vistamin D suppliments and a new statin for high cholesterol that won't cause charlie horses in her feet in the middle of the night.

June:

Don has been referred to specialists for eyes, feet and heart.  He's going to need cataract surgery in both eyes. The consultations for all the other doctors are coming up in the near future.

The goal is to get everything done as soon as possible so we can head to Arizona the middle of October. Keeping fingers crossed!

Got to visit family and learned how to harvest honey.

July:

Don didn't like how the engine tends to run a little warm so we had the thermostat changed. Went to A Mechanic's Touch in Centralia. Got back to camp. Turned off the engine. A few seconds later a hose popped off spewing steam into the air and antifreeze all over the concrete pad that was our campsite.  Right exactly as that happened the mechanic called to check up on us. We told him what just happened. He immediately drove out to our site to fix it. Luckily we weren't on the freeway.  We also asked him to come back 2 weeks later to put in a new water pump since the original was starting to fail. Took him 2 days, but he got it done.

Now, the "check engine" light is on. Sigh.

The Fantastic Fan quit working all of  a sudden. We asked Wayne at Diamond M to come check it out. Usually it's the plunger switch on the roof that gets stuck. He checked that and that wasn't it. He wiggled the ground wire and bingo! Fan worked.  He tightened that up and while he was up there, he sealed a cracked he noticed in the roof.

Later on, the generator suddenly started running funny. It was a surging type of sound like the timing was wrong. We called Wayne to come have a look. He said we'd need a new carburetor. Got one on Amazon and had it shipped to him. He came back out to install it. He was unable to do it because of 2 bolts that he can't access. He recommended to take it to an Onan mechanic and return the carburetor because, likely, they will not use it. When he put everything back together, we started the generator and magically it started working normally again. He didn't charge us for the visit since he says that he didn't do anything.

Then the microwave died.  The bake, roast and air fry still worked, so we lived with that until we could get it replaced. Luckily the same exact machine is still available at Walmart so we did a direct replacement.

August: Now there's a leak somewhere near the top of the black tank. Next is Don's medical consultations and eye surgeries. We also need to make an appointment with A Mechanic's Touch to find out why the A/C in the cockpit doesn't work (never has) so that can be fixed and find out why the "check engine" light is on.
